This group was organized during the academic year 2001-2002 when the new studies syllabus established by the LOGSE (Spanish Law passed in 1990) was being implemented in the upper level of musical studies in Asturias. Thanks to the subjects included in the syllabus established by this law, the CONSMUPA has, at present, an Orchestra, a Symphony Band, a Chamber Orchestra and more than 60 different Chamber Music ensembles.

At the beginning, the Chamber Orchestra was conducted by Francisco Vigil Sampedro. Since the academic year 2003/2004, it has been conducted by José Esteban García Miranda.

Annually, the Chamber Orchestra carries out an important number of concerts to increase the cultural diffusion within its nearest social environment. As result, it has had the opportunity to play in the most important Concert Halls of Asturias and its surrounding communities.

Due to the quality achieved during its existence, this group has been consolidated for the students of the CONSMUPA as the means for practical training. Therefore, it has important future projects in accordance with the pedagogical needs of the Institution and the cultural needs of the region.
