     Saxophone ensemble

This ensemble was created by the subject “Saxophone Band”, included in the syllabus of the Master Degree of the Superior Conservatory of Music of Oviedo.

The group began its first rehearsals at the end of the academic year 2004/2005. Its first conductor was the John Peter Falcone and it gave its first performance in the Concert Hall of the Superior Music Conservatory at the end of that academic year.

During the school year 2005/2006, Antonio Cánovas Moreno became its conductor and the ensemble reached 12 members. From that time onwards, the group began to give several concerts and public performances among which it is important to mention the following ones:

  • Secondary Education Awards Ceremony, took place in the Concert Hall of the Conservatory, in the presence of the President of the Community, the provincial Councillor of Education and other relevant members of the Government. Held in November 2005. It was invited by the Department of Culture of the Principality of Asturias.
  • Concert in the House of Culture of a city called Grado, invited by the Town Hall, in June 2006, with a great success.
  • Concert in the Asturian Centre in Oviedo in December, 2006.
  • Concert in the Philharmonic Theatre of Oviedo in December 2006, as part of the series called “Young Music” organized by the Cultural Department of the Principality of Asturias.
  • Concert in the “Principe Felipe” Auditorium of Oviedo with the famous saxophonist Jean Yves Fourmeu in April, 2007.
  • Concerts in Valencia de Don Juan (León) and León (GuzmanesPalace) in July, 2007, in the programme of XX Festival of Spanish Music of Leon.
  • Concert with Arno Bornkamp (soloist and saxophone teacher in Superior Music Conservatory of Amsterdam) in the Concert Hall of the Superior Musica Conservatory in January, 2008.

At present, this group is made up of 14 members. This is an evidence of its development and hard work. Its main objective is to divulge the saxophone, in and outside the Principality of Asturias, and, at the same time, to be an instrument of the artistic, professional and personal training of its members.
