THE HOOPOE AT
                   THE LIMETREE

One morning, Smaranda, Nica’s mother, was trying  hard to wake up the boy up to  send him to bring some food to the peasants who were working the land in a distant place.

Nica was sleepy as a hoopoe used to wake him up very earlyin the mornings. He was very angry and decided to catch it! So,he climbed up the limetree, caught the hoopoe but unfortunately he missed it in a hollowin the tree. Getting more courage, the boy tried again, but he couldn'tfindthe bird. Then he put his hat on the hole and went to bring the food to the working peasants. When he went back ,he captured the hoopoe and hide it in the loft of the house. The  following day, aunt Mariuca went to Nica’s mother and said that her son Nica had stolen the hoopoe which was the morning clock of the whole village. Smaranda promised that she would punish the boy.

Scared ,the boy took the hoopoe from the loft and wentto the market to sell the bird.

An old man, pretending he was  interested in buying the hoopoe released the bird and let it fly free. Nica asked the old man to pay for the hoopoe, but the old man tried to calm the boy down and threaten him to tell his father the stolen bird's story. Nica’s father was in the market too!

Scared, the boy run home.Meanwhile the hoopoe returned to the limetree and so, all the people believed that Nica was not guilty and the boy was happy because he didn't get into trouble this time.
